India to Launch World’s Biggest Thin Film Fab
Apr 07, 2007

Arguably India, a country with a population of above one billion, has one of the most advanced high-tech sectors across the world. The country is now preparing for a giant leap in the field of photovoltaic. On March 5, 2007, MoserBaer, India’s one of the leading technology firms, announced a joint venture with Applied Materials, one of the biggest blue chip manufacturers in Silicon Valley of California. The company is going to enter the partnership to construct the largest thin-film fab of world.
The thin film manufacturing plant, MoserBaer is planning to produce, will swathe the area of 5.7 square meter. The company claims the fab to be the largest in world, as the industry benchmark at present is 1.5 square meter.
India has immense potential not only as a center for solar panel production but also as an end-market for photovoltaic (PV) electric power. Mark Pinto, Chief Technical Officer with Applied Material said this in a statement that THE FINANCIAL EXPRESS published on 6 March 2007.
"Providing affordable renewable sources of energy is paramount in this century. In a high energy demand country like India with abundant sunlight, affordable photovoltaic generation will be key to sustaining our growth", said Kapil Sibal, science & technology minister for Indian Government, in a statement that EFYtimes.com published on 5 March 2007.
As per the RNCOS report "Photovoltaics - A high potential market opportunity (2005-2010)", "India is among those few countries in Asian region that have a govt. department exclusively dedicated to renewable energy’s promotion & support. There has been a continuous decline in the costs of photovoltaic. As a result of which numerous opportunities have come out for PV’s deployment, particularly in developing low-cost economies like China and India with a highly price conscious population."
This research report on "Photovoltaics - A high potential market opportunity (2005-2010)" provides extensive research and objective analysis of The Global IT Security Market. This report throws light on all aspects of Photovoltaic industry, issues discussed and analyzed in this report include: opportunities that exist in the Photovoltaic industry, impact of the government support programs on the overall industry, potential emerging photovoltaic markets, drivers for photovoltaic market, analysis of the major players in the industry etc.
