According to DEWI, a wind energy institute in Germany, the annual wind energy production at the global level is anticipated to grow 107,000 MW by 2017 from its current production level of 20,000 MW, as reported by MercoPress.
DEWI revealed that the globally installed wind energy capacity could rise to nearly 718,000 MW by 2017 against 94,593 MW in 2007. The global wind energy installations increased 27% to 94,593 MW in 2007 with nearly 78% new installations in the US, Spain, Germany, China and India.
The wind energy companies worldwide believe that the boost to the wind energy sector might come from the US. Moreover, the US Senate decision to extend PTC (Production Tax Credits) for wind energy sector till 2009 is expected to help the US wind energy industry keep breaking records in next two years. Besides, the fund given to the wind energy industry by various US States to clean the environment will also help the US wind energy industry to grow.
In addition, many other countries, including Spain, China and India, would also see rapid growth in their wind industry to meet the rising demand for energy due to high population growth. However, Germany would also give strong competition to the US, China, India and Spain in terms of installation of new wind energy capacity owing to rapidly declining subsidies, strong start and previous growth.
Further, other countries of the world are also adopting wind energy as a major source of energy production due to various reasons, such as more and cleaner energy at low cost. It is also eco-friendly because it reduces the dependence on nuclear fuels and coal for energy production.
According to a Research Analyst at RNCOS, “The rise in global wind energy production indicates that the world is searching alternative sources for energy production to tackle the menace of global warming. Also, countries worldwide are increasingly supporting the wind energy industry, representing good future prospects for the industry. Besides, the rise in production of wind energy is also offering more growth opportunities for vendors providing equipments used in this sector.”
